Over the past six months we have been purposeful in reaching out to the community in which we live. From showing people the practical love of Jesus through initiatives like the Cedarbrae Stampede Bar-b-q in July and raking leaves door-to-door in October, to investing in relationships at the Calgary Stampeders Faith & Fun Night at McMahon stadium in September and with neighbourhood women at Freshly Brewed on Thursday mornings, to providing opportunities for spiritual development like Vacation Bible School last summer, to sharing the good news through the dynamic and creative ministries of our International and Kids in Praise Choirs week after next and preparing for our Alpha Ministry which kicks off, again, in January, we have been active in reaching out to the people who live just a stone’s throw from our family gathering place. Even with these dynamic and creative outreach initiatives over the past six months, I believe we have just scratched the surface in demonstrating the love, and sharing the truth of Jesus with our neighbours.
This past Sunday over 21 church family members gathered at the Nagel House to brainstorm creative ways we can continue to reach out to the people of Cedarbrae in the new year. We had some great discussion as we thought about the needs of our community and how God wants to use us as Christ’s Body to be his hands, feet, arms legs, and mouths to those who in the homes that surround South Calgary. In three weeks, on Sunday, Dec. 7 we will meet, again, to reconsider and narrow our list of possible outreach initiatives to those we feel hold the best potential for bringing God’s kingdom to our neighbourhood. We invite you to come and join us for this special event.
Please pray for me and for those who are investing in planning for outreach in 2015. Ask God to fill us with the knowledge of His will. Ask Him to help everyone in our spiritual family catch God’s heart for those who don’t yet know His Son. And pray that every outreach initiative in 2015 will bear much fruit in transforming lives for eternity.
